The magic of the Vienna Boys' Choir

For the first time in 525 years, the voices of the world-famous Vienna Boys' Choir are available to you in your studio! The vocal brilliance of the boys aged 9 - 14, who are known for their unique timbre and purity of tone, can be felt in every sample in this collection. It is an almost unearthly combination of the natural sound of boys' voices, musical and singing skills as well as centuries of experience in vocal training that creates the magic of this choir.

As with the Basso Profondo Choir, the idea for this collection came about after producing choral recordings for the Amazon Prime fantasy series “Die Ringe Macht”, the prequel to “Lord of the Rings”. The essential element in Bear McCreary's score is the use of choirs recorded at the Synchron Stage Vienna in 2020 and 2021. This major project was the VSL team's first collaboration with the Vienna Boys' Choir. The cooperation should be expanded, with the development of a sample library as an essential element.

Already at the first sampling session in the large Stage A it became clear that the selected 20 boys would handle the strenuous studio recordings with great enthusiasm and incredible professionalism. It is no exaggeration to say that the boys are in no way inferior to an adult choir and in some respects even surpass them. What was particularly impressive was the boys' endurance and their quick grasp of the essentials of sample recordings. Simply playing with the Vienna Synchron Player reveals the joy of singing and the natural beauty of the voices in every single note.

The articulations include short and long tones, legati and marcati of the vowels AA and UU as well as MM and a variety of consonants in combination with short and long vowels. Various mixer presets make it easy to place the Vienna Boys' Choir in different environments, from closely miked setups to ambient and church reverb.
