What’s Inside the RodS Mk IIb Guitar Amp Plugin:

  • The RodS Mk IIb amplifier model.
  • Two cabinet models: the matched 4x12" cabinet and a 2x12" Fender* cabinet used by Jim Cregan during live performances.
  • A dedicated preset bank recreating the tones of the most famous Rod Stewart songs, available in both Les Paul and Telecaster versions.
  • Additional presets covering classic styles associated with this amp, including metal and prog.
  • Models created using Fluid Capturing, the cutting-edge emulation technology introduced in 2025.
  • 13 additional models, including overdrives, modulation effects, and reverbs.

The Legacy Behind the RodS Mk IIb Mesa Boogie Amp

This amplifier, a Mesa Boogie Mark IIb head (1980), was owned by Jim Cregan and used extensively in both live performances and studio recordings with Rod Stewart between 1980 and 1986. The amp was acquired directly from Jim Cregan.

Every Tonal and Emotional Nuance of the Mk IIb Captured with Precision

The THU RodS Mk IIb is a deeply authentic Mesa Boogie Mark IIb* amp simulation plugin that faithfully recreates both the Clean and Lead channels of the original amplifier, along with its iconic integrated 5-band graphic EQ.
The Clean channel delivers creamy, warm tones with a harmonically rich low end and can be pushed into a smooth, mild crunch. The high end ranges from soft and rounded to pristine and articulate, depending on the pull-switch configuration.

The Lead channel reproduces the legendary Mark IIb high-gain circuit, with tone shaping driven by the pull switches and the classic three-knob gain-staging architecture (Volume, Drive, and Master), allowing for precise control over saturation and dynamics.

The THU RodS pack also includes the emulation of the original straight 4x12" cabinet equipped with Celestion* G12M 65W speakers, as well as a Fender 2x12" cabinet* occasionally used during Rod Stewart’s live performances.
Both cabinets were captured using 18 microphones with high-resolution, nonlinear IRs. Thanks to Overloud's Fluid Convolution, you can position up to four microphones in a full 3D space around the cabinet and blend them with custom IRs. The AIR option further enhances realism, adding a deep and immersive listening experience.

Overloud's New Fluid Capturing Technology

Also known as "schematic-assisted capturing," Overloud’s new Fluid Capturing is an innovative amp simulation process that combines the strengths of both modeling and capturing techniques. A sampled amp capture, which is a highly realistic yet fixed representation of the amp at a specific setting, falls short in replicating the amp tone across all knob settings. In contrast, a modeled amp reacts dynamically at all dynamic ranges and knob positions but may not precisely match the iconic color of a particular amp setting. Fluid Capturing takes a comprehensive approach by both modeling and sampling the amp with a variety of settings. This combined data builds a powerful digital model that is as flexible and fluid as a modeled amp and as realistic as a captured amp.

Made In Rock

The Made In Rock Series is a revolutionary virtual amp collection honoring rock history and fueled by Overloud's NEW cutting-edge Fluid Capturing technology. The Made In Rock series features meticulous models of the actual amps that made rock history. Seven products have now been released and are models of amps played by Keith Richards, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Noel Gallagher, Ian Hill, Jimmy Page, Tony Iommi and David Gilmour on classic recordings. They were created in part using an Overloud innovation called "schematic-assisted capturing,” which seamlessly merges modeling and capturing techniques, allowing users to experience the variable nuances of each knob and circuit on these iconic amps.

These products were made possible by the Made In Rock Cultural Association in Italy, which curates an extensive collection of musical instruments, amplifiers, effects, clothing, memorabilia, and stage items once owned and used by legendary rock artists. The association aims to preserve these historical artifacts and impart their knowledge to younger generations.

By leveraging Overloud's Fluid Capturing, recognized as the most advanced capturing technology, Made In Rock achieves precise sound preservation by capturing and replicating every tonal and emotional detail of the amplifiers in their collection.
