This library brings the Serpent from the V I Historic Winds I Collection to the large hall (Stage A) of the Synchron Stage Vienna. The sample database has been redesigned and optimized for the Vienna Synchron Player with regard to flexibility, balance and user-friendliness in order to enable rapid and creative work.

The serpent (Latin: serpens = snake) captivates with its unmistakable visual appearance alone. The instrument was invented in the 16th century. invented in France and covers the bass register of the tine family. As with the zinc, leather-wrapped wood is also used as the material for the serpent, the mouthpiece is similar to that of the trombone or tuba, which is why the serpent is also considered the forerunner of the tuba. mid 18th century the serpent found its way into military music and the orchestra, where it remained until the middle of the 19th century due to its assertiveness. held. The serpent is considered extremely difficult to play and mastering it requires a great deal of practice and effort from the musician. Even under ideal conditions, it is not easy to elicit a consistently beautiful tone from the instrument.

Many composers of the Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras used the serpent, e.g. B. Handel (fireworks and water music), Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn (in "A Midsummer Night's Dream"), Berlioz (in his "Symphonie Fantastique"), and Wagner (in the opera "Rienzi"). In the 20th century The serpent was rediscovered by some film music legends: Bernard Hermann used a serpent in the film "Journey to the Center of the Earth" (1959), Jerry Goldsmith used it to create "extraterrestrial" soundscapes for Ridley Scott's legendary sci-fi horror film "Alien". (1979).

With the convolution reverb integrated into the Vienna Synchron Player, the relatively dry recorded instrument is optimally placed in the 540 m² Stage A of the Synchron Stage Vienna. The tailor-made mixer presets deliver out-of-the-box spatial sound and are a perfect match for the instruments in the SYNCHRON-ized Woodwinds Collection as well as all other products in the Synchron Series .
