This library brings the five crumhorns from the VI Historic Winds II Collection to the main hall (Stage A) of the Synchron Stage Vienna. They have been redesigned and optimized for the Vienna Synchron Player with regard to flexibility, balance and user-friendliness in order to enable rapid and creative work.

The crumhorn has a curved shape modeled after the letter "J" and had its heyday in the Renaissance. Like the recorder, the cylindrical bore has seven finger holes on the front and a thumb hole on the back. In contrast to the recorder, however, the sound is produced by means of a double reed. This is also responsible for the "nasal" sound often associated with Renaissance-era music. The crumhorn fell out of fashion in the Baroque period, but regained popularity in the 20th century with the folk and medieval movements. The composer Mauricio Kagel (1931–2008) also called for four crumhorns in his “Music for Renaissance Instruments” (in memoriam Claudio Monteverdi). Since the pitch range of the crumhorn is quite limited, the instrument is available in different sizes. This library contains recordings of five crumhorns, each covering the soprano, alto, tenor, bass and double bass registers.

With the convolution reverb integrated into the Vienna Synchron Player, the relatively dry recorded instruments are optimally placed in the 540 m² Stage A of the Synchron Stage Vienna. The tailor-made mixer presets deliver out-of-the-box spatial sound and are a perfect match for the instruments in the SYNCHRON-ized Woodwinds Collection as well as all other products in the Synchron Series .
