Recorded in Stage A of the Synchron Stage Vienna
The fundamental credo of the Vienna Symphonic Library of continuously developing and optimizing products and processes is a very special challenge, especially when it comes to pianos, as the team had already set the bar very high in the past. Nevertheless, we believe that with the Bösendorfer Imperial a new milestone has been created in the range of grand pianos at Synchron Stage Vienna.
The Bösendorfer Concert Grand 290 Imperial is the figurehead of piano manufacturing and the musical legacy of the traditional Austrian piano factory. Its nine sub-basses extend the instrument's range to eight octaves up to subcontra-C. Even if the additional bass strings are not played, they are indirectly vibrated when playing and, together with the enormous soundboard, project an orchestral sound whose warmth and richness is unparalleled.
The warm sound character of the Imperial unfolds particularly in the strengths of the attack from pianissimo to mezzoforte, which is why great importance was attached to capturing a particularly fine gradation of the volume with the specially developed robot system, especially in this dynamic range. In order to guarantee a constant sound character across all keys, volumes and tone lengths and to prevent even the smallest change in the sound behavior of the grand piano, the recording period was kept as short as possible. This led to a new shift in the Synchron Stage Vienna, which, despite the recording sessions of almost 24 hours a day, extended over several weeks in order to capture the instrument in all its playing styles and nuances.
The release sample technology of the synchronous piano player has again been improved, which automatically provides hundreds of finely graduated sound releases and assigns them to the played notes in real time. The result ensures one hundred percent sound fidelity and an incredibly realistic feel.
Like all other instruments in the Synchron Pianos series, the Bösendorfer 290 Imperial is always kept under constant and perfect climatic conditions. The exact same room climate also prevails in the 540 m2 “Stage A” hall of the Synchron Stage Vienna, which is characterized by its particularly warm, natural sound and with its unmistakable acoustics has already been used for countless international productions, from classic recordings to large orchestrated film scores has shaped.
The Vienna Synchron Pianos Player software offers a multitude of options for sound design and for changing the feel of the playing. In addition to a powerful playback engine, the software offers a musician-friendly user interface, which guarantees quick and easy access to all relevant parameters for sound adjustment. Shape your sound according to your personal preferences, e.g. B. by filtering certain keyboard areas or even individual keys, by subtle addition of body or string resonances and by the built-in algorithmic reverb, with which you refine the overall sound.
11 microphone positions
Over 4,000 samples per key and almost 20,000 samples per microphone position ensure breathtaking authenticity with our Bösendorfer Imperial. In order to record this beautiful instrument in one of the best acoustic environments in the world, we used various, sometimes very sophisticated microphone arrangements that offer a wealth of possibilities for individual sound shaping.

Vienna Instruments and software require a ViennaKey !
The USB dongle from eLicenser (Steinberg compatible) is not included in the Vienna Instruments, but must be purchased separately. So you have to order at least one ViennaKey or Steinberg eLicenser together with your first VSL product. Each ViennaKey can store up to 100 product licenses.
You also need an internet connection on any computer to authorize a ViennaKey.
