BIG BANG ORCHESTRA YMIR
Big Bang Orchestra: Ymir - Now the children are singing!
Recordings by an internationally renowned children's choir
Angel-like and pure sound
Vowels and consonants available
Front row and back row with extra microphones, additional ribbon microphones
For the second choir library of the Big Bang Orchestra, VSL was able to engage the internationally renowned children's choir, the “Gumpoldskirchner Spatzen”. The traditional ensemble, which has existed for over 70 years, has regular appearances at the Vienna State Opera and at “Christmas in Vienna”, as well as recordings with luminaries such as Leonard Bernstein, Sir George Solti, Claudia Abbado, Diana Ross, Michael Bolton, Charles Aznavour and many others his successes. Last but not least, the children also had a lot of experience with recordings in the Synchron Stage Vienna, where they created enthusiasm for film music productions such as Lego Batman, Made in Abyss 3 or Christmas Chronicles.
For the recordings of Big Bang Orchestra: Ymir, 24 children between the ages of 8 and 14 rushed like a whirlwind into the large hall Stage A, where they got ready with unbridled joy and lightheartedness. After a year of pandemic with no chance to perform, the Ymir sessions were a welcome change, even if singing in for a sample library is no picnic, even for adults. The children were there with the greatest discipline, focus and professionalism, and the result can truly be heard - the recordings enchant with soulful purity, clarity and precision.
The vowels AA and UU were sung in as sustains and legati, as well as a hum on MM. In addition, the initial consonants L, B and N were recorded.
Microphones and mixer presets
As with all other packs of the Big Bang Orchestra, the Ymir ensemble was recorded with a variety of microphones, which are available in the internal mixer of the Vienna Synchron Player for flexible sound design. In addition to the usual mid-distance placements and Decca Tree and Surround setups, a pair of ribbon microphones were used behind the conductors podium and microphones for the front and back rows of the ensemble.
The spatial placement of the ensemble is very easy to manage by clicking on a preset name. You can choose from various “room mixes” (stereo mixes by combining different microphone signals), Decca Tree, Surround to Stereo and surround presets for 3D audio applications. Mixer presets such as Cathedral, Compressed, Room Slapback and many more are available in the “Processed” category. Thanks to the consistent miking in the large hall of the Synchron Stage Vienna, the children's choir of Big Bang Orchestra: Ymir seamlessly fits into the overall sound of all other modules in the series.

The USB dongle from eLicenser (Steinberg compatible) is not included in the Vienna Instruments, but must be purchased separately. So you have to order at least one ViennaKey or Steinberg eLicenser together with your first VSL product. Each ViennaKey can store up to 100 product licenses.
You also need an internet connection on any computer to authorize a ViennaKey.
