SYNCHRON KONCOVKA
Synchron Koncovka - Synchron Koncovka in the key of C
The Koncovka is a Slovak end-blown overtone flute without finger holes, mostly made of hazelnut wood. She is sometimes referred to as the little sister of the Fujara. Both instruments were used by shepherds. The larger flute, the fujara, was considered the instrument of the herd leader and supreme shepherd. The smaller Koncovka was played more by his assistants.
Because there are no finger holes or keys, the tones are produced solely by overblowing and by opening and closing the lower opening of the flute. The intensity of the air flow and thus the volume also determines the pitch. The deepest tones are therefore also the quietest.
Due to the overtone scale limitation, a legato patch based on diatonic or chromatic scales is not possible. Instead, the library offers a large selection of phrases, patterns and very rhythmic loops that can be used to create impressive performances. Other expressive possibilities include effect playing techniques such as overblown staccato, crescendi/diminuendi and note endings.
The Koncovka was played by multi-instrumentalist and ethnic instrument expert Veronika Vitazkova, who is also a member of Synchron Stage Orchestra. She regularly plays concerts with various orchestras, such as the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and the Lower Austrian Tonkünstler, toured Europe as a solo flautist with Ennio Morricone, and played at the Salzburg Festival and Hollywood in Vienna.
Since she has worked on countless film scores in the Synchron Stage Vienna, she is now very familiar with the large Stage A, whose extraordinary acoustics contribute so significantly to the overall sound of the individual instruments.
In order to capture the instrument with this excellent spatial sound in the best possible way, seven separate, phase-coherent microphone arrangements were used. All microphone signals are available separately in the Synchron Player mixer window. A large number of presets offer perfect mixer settings and serve as a starting point for your own sound creations.
Below you will find the sampled tones of the basic diatonic scale of the Koncovka. However, this software instrument also provides you with all chromatic intermediate tones, with the exception of legato. If you would like your composition to be performed by a Koncovka player, please keep in mind that not everything that you can play on the keyboard can be used in a live performance.
