THE GRATER
The Grater is a powerful audio plug-in that allows you to compress and shape your audio like never before. With its unique set of controls, The Grater can boost your tracks by adding punch and power or by creatively destroying and mangling your sound. Whether you’re a mixing engineer looking to add punch to your drums or a sound designer looking for new ways to mangle your audio, The Grater has you covered.
Break your sound with raw power. The key to extreme audio punch and destruction!
The first thing you’ll notice on the interface is the Grater Control Lever, which throws extreme compression, punch, and distortion into your mixes. Fine-tune your results with the Sharpness Control, adjusting the Grater's response for more precise control. The innovative Breakup Control introduces unique errors to the compression, available in three distinct modes: Smooth, Neutral, and Heavy, allowing for versatile audio manipulation. Ensure perfect gain staging with Compressor Input and Output gain controls while reclaiming lost dynamic range with the Dynamic Reinject feature to restore the natural feel of your audio. Enhance your sound further with three additional effect modules: Reso Burst for resonant filter bumps and self-resonating tones, Pre Tonality to shape the tonal balance before compression, and the Slice Up module for an additional clipping stage. The Master Section provides final polishing, making this tool ideal for any application, from tracking and mixing to sound design.

Main Controls
1 The Grater panel is your main control. The lever lets you adjust the amount of over-the-top compression applied to the audio signal. Increasingly extreme compression will drive even subtle elements to punch, while distorting and saturating the audio. Even on its own, this control adds force or can give a rough, aggressive edge to your tracks.
2 Breakup adds interruptions to the compression, which sounds like the signal breaking up or the speaker struggling to reproduce the sound due to the extreme loudness. These unusual sounds and artifacts add character to the audio.
3 The Sharpness control allows you to fine-tune the response of the Grater control lever. At low Sharpness settings, it will have a slower attack and release, retaining more of the original audio's dynamics. This gives it some punch without completely squashing the transients.
4 There are three breakup modes: Smooth, Neutral, and Heavy. Smooth produces softer and more subtle imperfections, Heavy more aggressive and pronounced breaks than Neutral.
Shape Your Grated Tone
The Reso Burst effect module adds a resonant bandpass filter to the audio signal, that fully reacts to the overall compression settings. It enriches your audio with feedback-like tones, from a subtle low boost to an extreme and mangled characteristic, similar to distorted synth basses.
Adjust Input Frequencies
The Pre-Tonality module acts as a unique filter and EQ module between the Input Gain control and the Grater main control, drastically affecting the way the Grater control circuit works. The High, Mid, and Low knobs allow you to adjust the gain of the respective frequencies of your audio.
Slice it Up!
The Slice Up control adds a clipping effect circuit to the audio signal after the Grater main control and Output Gain control. The clipping ranges from subtle to pronounced, slicing up any remaining transients and crushing the audio even further.
Fine Tune
1 With Dynamic Reinject you can reapply dynamics from the original audio to the over-the-top compressed signal coming out of The Grater. You'll retain the tonal and crushed compression characteristics, while giving the signal some life and movement back.
2 Muffle allows you to tame the harshness that can come with extreme compression and distortion, by subtly taking some high-end frequencies off the audio signal. Smoothing out the sound this way adds a more refined and polished character to your audio.
3 The Grater includes a set of master controls that let you fine-tune the overall sound of the plug-in and polish its final output. The master controls include Muffle, Mix, and Output Gain.
