String Innovation
Anyone who dares to venture into musical innovation must try out new methods to penetrate undiscovered sound worlds. That was precisely the goal of this unique collection of extraordinary string effects. From bizarre noises to seemingly impossible playing techniques, it pushes the boundaries of traditional playing with articulations that are rarely used in the classical repertoire or are previously unknown. Two string ensembles playing simultaneously - the large one in the legendary Stage A, the smaller one in the more intimate Stage B of the Vienna Synchron Stage - enable seamless crossfading between the two groups. Trills, artifacts, noises and unheard of articulations merge into a breathtaking sound world in which artistry meets limitless creativity. This collection pulls on completely new strings - perfect for cinematic suspense, abstract sound design or avant-garde compositions.
The Duality Principle
True to the Duality Strings concept, you can combine the full, spacious sound of the large ensemble with the precise clarity of the chamber music-like instrumentation. The two ensembles were recorded simultaneously in the Vienna Synchron Stage - the symphonic ensemble in the large Stage A, the smaller in the drier Stage B. Both ensembles played synchronously, while the conductor on the podium in Stage A also directed the ensemble in Stage B via video monitors. Thanks to this unique recording technique, all musical aspects are perfectly aligned. But what happens when this musical perfection meets creative chaos and strange FX sounds? The answer lies in this unique collection, where precision meets unbridled sounds, opening up a whole new world of expressive possibilities.
Expansive Expressiveness
With this collection, we open the door to a world of special string effects like you've never heard before. When even the virtuoso musicians of the Vienna Synchron Orchestra were baffled or confused by the sheet music and instructions for these sampling sessions, the VSL team knew that something very special was being created. But as experienced artists, the musicians felt challenged and left all musical conventions behind in the recording sessions. The sampled techniques range from eerie textures and explosive sound layers to experimental sounds that redefine traditional string playing.
The Joys of Special Effects
Bow strokes behind the bridge, creative downtuning effects by manipulating the pegs, impossible trills, scratching effects, strange sound artifacts and hammer-ons that guitarists are very familiar with but are sometimes unfamiliar territory for classically trained musicians - these are just some of the daring sounds in this collection. All of these sounds break with musical traditions and are perfect for cinematic storytelling and experimental soundscapes. If the legendary composer Bernard Herrmann had presented these eerie sounds to Alfred Hitchcock, the master of suspense would surely have loved them. With Syncrhon Duality Strings (fx) you can now use these and countless other special effects to greatly expand your sonic palette and inspire your imagination.
