In Bösendorfer's new 280VC “Vienna Concert”, the know-how from a century of the most demanding piano manufacturing tradition merges with the most modern development technologies to create a concert grand of the next generation. The piano was completely redesigned, but consistently continues Bösendorfer's sound philosophy and central construction methods such as the resonance box principle.
With success, the 280VC is already valued by pianists all over the world for its universal applicability and its brilliant sound. Compared to the Bösendorfer Imperial, which unfolds an orchestral sound with its additional sub-bass strings and the resulting larger soundboard, the 280VC has a very clear and defined sound character, with easy distinguishing between the bass and middle registers and the treble. In addition, the incredibly great dynamics make this grand piano very versatile. With its sensitivity, the 280VC is ideally suited as an accompanying instrument for singers and solo instrumentalists and for chamber music, while it easily asserts itself against the power of a large orchestra even in the largest concert hall. The characteristics of a real Bösendorfer are not missing either,
The Bösendorfer 280VC was recorded in Stage B of the Synchron Stage Vienna, a 69 m2 recording room which, compared to the large Stage A, is characterized by more controlled acoustics with less spatial sound. The sound of the 280VC is more direct and intimate than that of the Bösendorfer Imperial recorded in the large hall. With this full and physical sound character, the 280VC shines equally in all styles such as classical, jazz and pop.
Renowned pianists were involved in the development of the concert grand. Paul Badura-Skoda, among others, is amazed at the progress: “I'm surprised that improvements are still possible in modern piano construction. Without giving up the legendary virtues, this model (280VC) impresses with its extraordinarily rich response and its extremely dynamic spectrum. Absolutely brilliant. "
Sampling with the highest precision
In order to capture the Bösendorfer 280VC in all its fine nuances, our developers have further developed our own, high-precision system, which uses a magnet to silently transfer all movements to a “robot finger”. This micro-controller controls the finger with almost superhuman precision and covers all touch and release curves. The latter map the different speeds when a key is released and correspond to the previous note length.
7 microphone positions
In order to capture this unique instrument in all its beauty, our sound engineers have used several arrangements with high-quality microphones that offer a wealth of possibilities for individual sound shaping.

Individual sound design
In addition to the multitude of sound design options by mixing different microphone signals, the Bösendorfer 280VC also includes our specially developed synchronous piano software. In addition to a powerful playback engine, the software offers a full-fledged mixer with a variety of effects such as EQ, compressor, saturator, algorithmic reverb, delay, chorus, flanger, rotary and much more. Change the volume of body or string resonances as well as pedal noises directly in the main Play window. In the edit window you can even define EQ settings, volume, mood and dynamic range for each individual key.
