Detailed drum and percussion recordings

The second part of these particularly detailed drum and percussion recordings in the Synchron Stage Vienna also offers a range of fine instruments that enrich the Synchron Series. As with the first collection, all instruments in the large "Stage A" of VSL's own scoring stage were recorded with the same extensive microphone setup, which enables both excellent sound fidelity and great flexibility.

Included instruments:

  • 5 timpani (Adams, C2 – C # 4, played with soft mallets)

  • 10 Taikos (Kolberg, 8 "- 53")

  • 6 Roto-Toms (Kolberg, 6 "- 16")

  • Bass Drum 2 (bass drum, Lefima 28 ")

  • Tam-Tam 3 (Wuhan, 70 cm)

  • Burma Gongs (Kolberg, C2 - C6)

  • 5 China Gongs (Kolberg Peking Opera Gongs)

  • Vibraphone (Musser M55)

  • Crotales (Bergerault, C6 - C8)

  • Bell plates (Kolberg, C2 - C7)

  • 3 temple bells

  • 2 thunder plates

  • Wind machine

  • Rainmaker (cactus rainmaker)

  • 3 ratchets

  • 2 vibraslaps

You can find detailed information about all instruments in the product descriptions of the individually available instrument groups.

All instruments recorded single hits in a variety of dynamic levels and with multiple repetitions (round robins). There are two types of pegs available for some instruments: "Static" pegs were recorded without changing the dynamics and can be crossfaded from pianissimo to fortissimo using the velocity crossfade control. In the case of "dynamic" vortices, volume changes (crescendos and diminuendos) were recorded in different pitch lengths. You can also play the pegs for a shorter time and exit at any time by simply releasing the key, and the customized release sample will be played automatically.

Miking and mixing

Each instrument was recorded with 12 microphones. You can choose from four positions (Standard Library) or seven positions (Full Library) and mix the signals with the internal mixer of the Synchron Player.

A number of mixer presets are available for each instrument. The Decca Tree configurations offer widely used presets such as Close, Classical, Wide, Distant and Ambience. In the “Processed” category, the signals are modified with effects such as algorithmic reverb, compression, delay and other FX for presets such as “Low Boom”, “Power Timps” or “Far Away Echoes”. "Surround to Stereo" presets add the signals from the surround microphones to the stereo output of the synchronous player, in order to achieve a denser, richer overall sound. The “Surround” presets can be used in actual 5.1 and 3D audio setups, e.g. B. Dolby Atmos or Auro 3D.

A new feature of the Synchron Player allows you to distribute the signals from widely positioned instruments that consist of several individual instruments (e.g. timpani, taikos, roto-toms) individually in a stereo panorama. Instead of z. If, for example, you want to place all five timpani at a certain point in the room, you can use the new “Output Config” function to route the signal of each individual kettle that is micro-connected to its own channel.
