This library brings the ophicleides from the VI Historic Winds I Collection to the large hall (Stage A) of the Synchron Stage Vienna. It has been redesigned and optimized for the Vienna Synchron Player with regard to flexibility, balance and user-friendliness in order to enable rapid and creative work.

Like the tuba, the ophicleide, with its conical bore, belongs to the group of bugle horns. The brass instrument was invented in 1817 by the French instrument maker Jean Hilaire Asté and replaced the serpent in the Romantic orchestra, which was felt to be outdated. According to the origin of the name, the ophicleide is a "serpent with flaps" (Greek: ophis = serpent, kleis = flaps). The cup-shaped mouthpiece resembles that of the modern trombone or that of the euphonium. Probably the most famous use of the ophicleide can be found in Berlioz' "Symphonie Fantastique", but Wagner and Verdi also used the instrument. In Brazilian choro music, the ophicleide lasted well into the 20th century, when it was replaced by the tuba or saxophone. According to tradition, the ophicleide is a direct ancestor of the saxophone,

With the convolution reverb integrated into the Vienna Synchron Player, the relatively dry recorded instrument is optimally placed in the 540 m² Stage A of the Synchron Stage Vienna. The tailor-made mixer presets deliver out-of-the-box spatial sound and are a perfect match for the instruments in the SYNCHRON-ized Woodwinds Collection as well as all other products in the Synchron Series .
