Massive, fat percussion sounds play an essential role in the sound of the large, modern orchestra - they give epic size, power and dynamism. Following the principle of the previous tutti recordings in the Big Bang Orchestra series, up to six percussionists were recorded simultaneously in the large hall of the Synchron Stage Vienna in order to authentically capture the musical-human component.
Synchron Stage's own percussion instruments were used, which, thanks to their quality and professional maintenance, deliver a perfect sound in optimal climatic conditions. The combination of various coordinated instruments and their positioning in the room resulted in powerful and “fresh” sounds - not only in fortissimo, but also in the subtle, quieter volumes. Thanks to a special recording process, the instruments - although played at the same time in the Synchron Stage - could be isolated with the close miking in such a way that creative sonic processing is possible with the mixer of the Synchron Player.
The library consists of several percussion set-ups, with two superordinate categories: Skins (Fellklinger) and Metals (Metallklinger). The combination of these two categories is particularly appealing, as it enables the entire frequency spectrum to be mapped. This also creates a powerful percussion orchestra of up to 12 musicians, with which exceptionally realistic musical implementations are possible. The Fellklinger category contains monster drums, bass drums, thunder toms, special drums and snare drum ensembles. Among the metal blades you will find hanging basins, pairs of basins, "Big Metal" and "Small Metal".
The instruments were set up in three positions (left, center, right) in the room, with one to two instruments per position. They were played simultaneously and recorded with a variety of microphones, including one overhead microphone per position and one close microphone per instrument. These individual signals are also available for further processing in the channels of the internal mixer of the synchronous player. Furthermore, you can edit the signals from Decca-Tree, surround and high-surround microphones according to your taste, or use the many mixer presets.
You can choose from different playing styles and their variations, e.g. B. fading or secco (dampened), played exactly together or loosely, with hard or soft mallets. In addition to the single beats, there are articulations with one to four suggestions as well as pegs and crescendo pegs in different lengths. With the internal MIDI player you can play the supplied MIDI loops, which means that with Big Bang Orchestra: Dorado you also have entire patterns available at the push of a button.
Together with the other modules in the series, this library unfolds its full power, as the Big Bang Orchestra can now sound completely with the percussion section in the Synchron Stage.
