Strings of Winter - An icy hint of new sounds

Arctic levels. Shimmering glaciers. Extensive steppes. A unique instrument that perfectly captures the spirit of these rugged and untamed landscapes. An absolutely honest and atypical new sound that portrays scenes of fragile, icy loneliness as perfectly as moments of unrestrained strength and abundance. Strings of Winter comes with 60 truly extraordinary and original articulations , played by a 41-piece European string orchestra and the unique Mongolian Morin Khuur State Orchestra .

"TO Strings of Winter" is a standalone instrument and a revolutionary contact player library based on the groundbreaking Ensemble Engine developed especially for "The Orchestra", with which you can quickly and easily turn your ideas into music.

TO Strings of Winter also presents a very popular function that was not yet included in "The Orchestra" - MIDI export! Simply drag and drop the MIDI data into your preferred DAW. You can change the notes and rhythms for each exported clip. This makes it child's play to create variations and emotional changes without overwriting the engine's arpeggiators and envelopes. You can also use these MIDI files with other instruments - including from other sample libraries.

The ensembles

European string orchestra

A 41-piece string orchestra, divided into 5 groups of instruments, performed a number of detailed and expanded techniques for Strings Of Winter (e.g. Trills, Sul Ponticello, Harmonics, Col Legno, Bartók Pizzicato). The resonance and rough complexity of these new articulations was recorded in the classic room of Studio 22 in Budapest. All instrument groups were held in their traditional seating position.

Mongolian Morin Khuur State Orchestra

The Morin Khuur is the national instrument in Mongolia, also called "horse head violin". The instrument has two strings of horse hair and is played with a bow that is also covered with horse hair. This gives the instrument a fine and airy timbre. The Morin Khuur Ensemble was recorded at White Arch Studios in Ulan Bator with an orchestra of 15 players, which is divided into a high and a low ensemble.

The articulations

Strings of Winter contains 60 unique articulations in 7 different groups of instruments. In addition, 4 different instruments with string ensemble FX are included.

The core: the Ensemble Engine

Strings Of Winter has the same powerful engine as our expertly acclaimed instrument, The Orchestra. This engine works with a series of independent arpeggiators and velocity envelopes that are heavily inspired by the Sonuscore Origins series.

Create vibrant rhythms and inspiring full arrangements with any key combination. All of this without accessing pre-played phrases - you always have full control. It works no matter what chord or notes you play.
With minimal loading times and a large number of presets, you can always create new orchestral figures and shapes - and all that: right out of the box.

  • Independent arpeggiators and dynamic envelopes create vivid and convincing orchestral colors

  • Load different instruments into 5 independent slots and play them together.

You always have full control over the ensemble

On the engine page you can access all individual controls for each of the five instrument modules. Short notes can be arranged with the arpeggiators, while sustained notes can be shaped with the velocity envelope. Create orchestral colors according to your wishes and let the magic powers work.

Arpeggiator

The arpeggiator creates fascinating melodic patterns that give your project a diverse and lively orchestral feel. Change the pattern of the arpeggiator with the rhythm stepper. If necessary, you can change almost any parameter to keep full control over your orchestral music.

Velocity envelope - shape your sustain sounds

With the Velocity Envelope you add a recurring dynamic pattern to a sustain note. The centerpiece is the envelope shape, which can be drawn freely.

Export your own performance

Once inspired by a preset, simply drag and drop the arrangement of your performance onto your DAW. Unleash the power of the ensemble engine on your own template, change notes, amplify the unique sound with other instruments and make the music your own.

Play all instruments freely

Play your ideas and melodies freely with the individual instrument patches. In addition to the Ensemble Instrument, individual instrument patches and articulations are also available

Unleash the full power of the orchestra with multi-track patches

Multinationals make the ensemble engine even more efficient if they load and overlay multiple instances. In addition to the Ensemble Instrument, "Strings Of Winter" also contains 64 individual instrument patches from the individual sections and as a bonus full ensemble risers, crescendo, falls and hits.
