The dark and dirty bass sounds of Dark Horizon expand the Elysion series with new, previously unknown soundscapes. Sound design mastermind Tobias Menguser embarked on a mental journey to a dark part of the universe during the production of this very special sound library. From this inspiration came an instrument that provides dark and deep bass.

• Layered - Dirty - Powerful - With four sound layers, an integrated compressor as well as delay and reverb, you teleport your listeners into unique worlds of sound. Each layer is connected to an independent arpeggiator and two pan engines, so you can easily create complex, unfolding pads.

• Sampling redefined - full of expression and variety - We recorded, sampled and processed the integrated sounds as if they were "real" acoustic instruments. The result is an unimaginable dynamic and an unprecedented sound. In combination with the groundbreaking ensemble engine, Dark Horizon expands our unique composition series, which already consists of two of the most innovative instruments of recent years, Elysion 2 and The Orchestra.

For Elysion and The Orchestra users, Dark Horizon's user interface is familiar territory, as all the important controls are found in the same places.

• The main page – Here you can select instruments and themes and control all layers. You can also play up to four instruments at the same time.
• Ensemble Engine - Modify and fine-tune your sounds with the critically acclaimed Ensemble Engine. Create exciting new worlds of sound by playing a few simple chords.
• Mix Page - Mix and pan layers. Give each individual pattern a lively and dynamic variation.
• Motion Engine - Customize the instruments fundamentally. For example, control attack or decay via MIDI CC.
• Preset Browser - Explore the huge selection of themes using intuitive filters and categories.
• Pan Engine - Create stunning motions and effects by controlling and automating the panning of sounds.

Powerful Features - Supernatural workflow

Dark Horizon features unique ensemble technology that allows you to create complex sounds by playing simple chords.

• Modified Ensemble Engine - Dark Horizon uses a modified version of the Elysion ensemble engine. You can play up to four different instrument modules simultaneously, with each module allowing independent control of the arpeggiators. An amazing filter effect can be unlocked with the mod wheel, which offers a multitude of kinetic, digital possibilities.

• Motion Engine - Dark Horizon has its own dynamic FX engine. This allows a basic adjustment of the instruments. For example, attack and decay can be controlled via MIDI CC. In addition to other effects, the motion engine also includes two pan steppers that breathe life into any pattern in no time at all.

Increase your creativity

Dark Horizon contains 180 complex animated and fully customizable themes divided into five different categories. Each category has its own character and pursues its own benefit. It offers you either rhythmic elements, dark textures or sounds perfect for playing melodies.

• Poly Animations - Complex rhythms for chords that enliven the soundscape with dynamics and vibration. The mod wheel changes the arps and filters, increasing the tension and adding horn sections, braahms and drones.

• Rhythmic Pulses - Deep pulsing basses with complex arpeggios reveal a wide dynamic range, using the mod wheel to morph the rhythms and boost the filters.

• Mono Arpeggios - Legato arpeggios arranged in danceable grooves, with the mod wheel compressing the frequencies and producing a much sharper sound.

• Deep Textures - Dark, tension-filled drones complemented by screeching pulses, filter swipes, and stellar reverb effects at the mod wheel's spin.

• Playable Sounds - Wide cosmic pads and smooth gliding legatos, this set contains most of the playable content. The mod wheel releases all the pent up anger and tension as the frequencies push forward.

Tobias Menguser has been working as a sound designer since the 1990s and has been involved in programming synthesizers for companies such as Waldorf, Ensoniq and Clavia. At that time he pioneered the production of sample CD-ROMs for the Ensoniq EPS16+ and ASR10. In the early 2000s, Tobias worked for Native Instruments for over 10 years, helping to make the KOMPLETE line what it is today and contributing sounds to over 450 US movie trailers in the last ten years.

Tobias' current projects mainly consist of software instrument development and other work for Sonuscore, Softube, Heavyocity, Steinberg, Presonus and Arturia. "Working in my studio and designing samples and instruments is not work for me ," says Tobias. "I really enjoy it - especially since these samples and instruments inspire musicians to create exciting tracks and scores!"
